Oh Fabs, we have a great magic moon dancing tonight with our Solstice!
Mon Sherry, you will prolly be the only Fabulous Fab to see this. But it's pretty cool, no?
On June 20, 2016, the Full Moon appears on the same night as the summer solstice.
This hasn't happened since we were tiny Fabettes. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the last time was 1948.
The sun rises at its leftmost spot on the horizon and sets at its rightmost position. By landing exactly on the solstice, this Full Moon doesn’t just rise
as the Sun sets but is opposite the Sun in all other ways too. The Sun gets super high so this Moon must be super-low. Even at its loftiest,
it’s downright wimpy-low. This forces its light through thicker air,
which also tends to be humid this time of year, and the combination
typically makes it amber colored.
This is the true Honey Moon.
It is known by various names: Honey moon and strawberry moon. In Europe they call it the Rose moon, la lune
rose in France. The Chinese call it the lotus moon.
It is called the honey moon because it stays close to the horizon in June, and that
can make it take on an amber color. The Algonquin tribes first called June's full moon a strawberry moon because it coincided with the best time to pick the fruit.
According to NASA, low-hanging moons can look unnaturally large when
they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects. It's
been called the "moon illusion."
Why? Nobody actually has a definitive answer. Researchers have been theorizing about it for years.
A low-hanging moon is actually no wider than any other moon (that's
been proven with cameras), but the human brain can see it differently.
If you want to see a big June moon then the best time will be at moonrise.
Tonight! Monday, June 20, at 8:00 PM EDT | 5:00 PM PDT | 00:00 UTC
I'm not sure I did these links correctly and I can't figure out how to make sure. So...
The Old Farmer’s Almanac and Slooh will broadcast the show from the world’s largest telescope right to YOUR computer or mobile from our partner Slooh’s flagship observatory at the Institute of Astrophysics in the Canary Islands.

Oh Demitoes, what a wonderful post! I do love the solstice, and just when I thought it couldn't get any more special, BEHOLD: the strawberry moon. (I would even have strawberries if the thieving birds weren't beating me to them.....alas.) I am, however, not in the mood to whine and bitch. I will likely spend some time outside this evening feeling mesmerized by the magic. And part of my heart will be in Texas.

Yo! Mon Sherry!
I love magic. And that felt very magical.
Once many moons ago I was camping on a beach in Kauai. It was a beautiful isolated spot that a giant albatross led me too. But that's another story. I was wandering around my spot and found this little area I was quite smitten with. As I sat there I was overcome with such a feeling of ...magic is the only word I can think of to describe it. Suddenly I knew this was a heiau, a space sacred and powerful. Okay there may or may not have been some drugs involved. But still... It wasn't anything we'd heard of or seen in any literature or on the maps. So off we went to the local 'everything and it's history' shop, which it turned out was run by a kahuna.
After a bit of a scene about howlies and invading sacred spaces (but that's another story), he told me yes it was a special and mostly unknown heiau. Later that day he showed up at my campsite and gave me all his camping equipment to use. I think I spent like a month camping there. That was my favorite time in Hawaii. The albatross that were also camped there and I made good friends and they came with their new chicks and trained them in the dance right in front of me. Yet another story! Hahaha! All that came back to me last night. I feel quite fabulous today. And yes, it is hot as hell. I don't care. I'm all about the magic!
Love you and love that we shared this across the miles!

Hi Ya'll,
Sorry for the absence. I am truly overwhelmed and at a loss for words.
I've been hunkering down, just trying to focus hour by hour.
On a more positive note, I LOVE your posts Deni; they are heart-warming
and beautiful! And I was glad to read that the FABS are surviving Mother
Nature's reminding us that "we are not in control". Is it any wonder that
people who wrote about weather in "sacred texts" saw messages from the gods.
Too bad we are still not listening and assigning blame to "the other", when
we do listen!
Hope Agy and Curt are ok-I haven't heard from her in ages. So go to read all
the wonderful and articulate posts from both of you.
Trying to climb out of my hole,
Candy
Hey FAB Candy, good to see your post. Worry not, we all need to go to ground from time to time, words are not necessary. I most sincerely hope that whatever is overwhelming you will be resolved well, and SOON! Life is such a crazy and challenging place to live.
I totally agree with your estimation of our Deni's awesome posts. That girl has magic in her which obviously flows through her fingers. Her story about adventures in Hawaii just transported me there. (May be a form of teleportation?) Pretty cool considering I have never been anywhere near the islands, eh?
:-}
Haven't heard a peep from Ms. AgyJane, but I send +~~ daily and hope for the best.
Wishes for a safe and happy 4th, although there is always an edge to the holiday for those of us with furbabies. I shall be right here at home with windows closed, music loud, and a lap available for therapy as needed. Such is my long-standing 4th of July tradition.

Candy! So good to see you peeping out from the hole! I know whereof you speak. My hole is so familiar, it's got its own feather coverlet and coffeemaker. That's where I keep my "Male Tears" coffee mug.
I was going to give one of those mugs to my sister-in-law. But I wasn't sure they'd actually think it was funny. Cause ya know... Texas boys are verrry sensitive. So I took my mug with me when we last visited and drank coffee out of it. Nobody said a word. So Mike said, "What do you think of Denise's coffee mug?" Dead silence followed by "Oh". hahaha! I decided against the present.
Ah teh fine Fabs with the compliments! Yay! I was gonna do a post for the 4th of July, but it didn't come together quickly enough. So I'm working on coming up with a new idea. Maybe the dancing albatross story...
Love and light to AgyJane who I envision dancing madly at this moment! With Dragons!
A little lighthearted magic to Candy to help lift her from the hole. But ya know, infuriatingly, it takes as long as it takes. Any Candy sightings will always be met with cheers and toasts and raspberry jam! Hola!
Life is such a crazy and challenging place to live. Ain't that the truth?! Sherry you have such a way with the words. I love that!
