Truthdiggers of the Week: The Refugee Olympic Team: Natasha Hakimi

Truthdiggers of the Week: The Refugee Olympic Team: Natasha Hakimi: The 10 athletes competing without a flag or anthem at the Rio Olympics are challenging conceptions of nationalism, as well as reminding the world that the growing refugee crisis must be addressed.

Oh Candy I love those guys! I'm so glad you posted about them. I was keeping up with them all for awhile, but then I got sidetracked. I was first turned on to them reading about Yusra Mardini, and her sister. They pushed a small boat to Greece with 20 refugees aboard, for three hours in the frigid open sea. I cry every time I think about it.

Broke my heart that the Soccer team was eliminated.

Not a drop of rain. It is falling all around us and terrible flooding at the coast. Here, nothing. My rain dance was a bust. I'll hafta regroup and rework it. However the weather is cooler. Unfortunately the humidity is at 70% so there's that!

I inadvertently saw the news on TV. OMG! I won't do that again soon.

No kidding, Deni, you have to be oh so alert to the accidental exposure to what some of our fellow humans are up to!! LOL It's more than a body can bear some days.

I've been able to poke my head out of my black hole a bit recently, so I'm trying to
stay in touch with daily stuff, like walking my Daisy girl.

I was really bummed that the soccer team was eliminated as well. I watched every game. But the gymnastics have been wonderful to watch and some good swimming results.
A little bit if that goes a long way for me. A Colorado woman got a medal in the steeplechase; first ever for the Americans.

We've had rain threatening for the last two weeks, nary a drop!! But cooler seems to be on the way. Sending all my rain vibes your way.

Hope all is well up north, at the farm and in the city! So glad you all are here to share with! Take care of yourselves!

Hugs,

Candy

G'day FABS

Rejoicing your rainfall in Texas, (magic delayed not denied!) hoping that ma nature stops teasing Colorado and provides some respite there too. We had lovely refreshing showers last week (the petrichor was intoxicating!) but we have been advised that there is a stretch of record-breaking 100+ degree weather scheduled to arrive on Thursday. ~~~sigh~~~ I have watermelon on my shopping list, I shall chill it to near-freezing and offer it to the feathered ladies as one way to help them cope with extreme heat.

So happy to know that y'all are enjoying the Olympics. A focus on the beauty of the human spirit is a most welcome distraction from the political sewer. I confess to watching more "news" than is probably good for mental health, but the silver lining is that I am beginning to feel encouraged by recent indications that things are moving in the right (read: LEFT) direction. I have faith that the gaping wound inflicted on the American psyche can and will begin healing in November.

You inquired about our Governor, Candy. She is up for election this year and is running against Bud Pierce, someone I know and - wait for it - actually respect. (He was my hubby's oncologist.) This is blue Oregon so I assume the Dems will maintain control. It is going to be an interesting election from sea to shining sea!

Wishing everyone peace and comfort as we continue our travels on the road of life.

Howdy,

Cooler temps here this week. I am enjoying our early fall, but know that the
90's will likely return before long.

This has been the quietest election since I've lived here. Evidently the Dems
are following the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", theory of electioneering.
And the Repubs are just too ashamed to come out of their holes. It's been nice,
accept for the national news!!

I had a heart to heart talk with my older brother-who lives in Northern Calif-yesterday, and he said he might vote for Jill Stein. Wow, he has been a Repub (moderate) for the last 30 years. Very surprising-said he can't vote for tp or
Hillary-so there you have it. Don't think a Repub can win without votes like his!
My sister-in-law is evidently going to vote for Hillary (also a Repub). So hopefully
it will all go according to plan.

Matt (son in Oregon) likes the Governor; says shes doing a good job. I've been polling my family to see if I can get a sense of where it might go. But I will just feel relieved when the election is over and we are safe from the sociopath!

Hope all your gardens are growing zestfully! Did enjoy the Olympics-wonderful talented people! Daisy is happy to have me back on my feet, for longer walks in
the nice cool evenings.

Wishing you a happy fall.

hugs,

Candy and the Daisy girl

Hello Fabarinas!

Back on your feet? What does this mean Candy? I know you were feeling down, but it sounds like it was more than that. Emotional, mental and/or physical? I usually manage to do all 3 at once, myself. When I feel emotionally fucked up down and sideways, the other 2 follow right along like little sheep. So when I'm down, I'm totally down. Half-measures are for wimps!

Please send a little light this way. Once again the doctors are saying Mike's mother is on her way out. I'm sitting here looking at a pic taken this week at the hospice of Mike's parents 68th wedding anniversary. It is sad and sweet all at the same time. It does look like she's going to die. So light from the Fabs for healing hearts and minds would be very welcome.

The weather has cooled. I'm managing to get stuff done in the yard in the mornings. My tomato experiment failed. All eleven tomato plants died. A tear. I'm giving the veggie garden one more season for me to figure it out. But Climate Change keeps causing the climate to change and I can't seem to find the magic time to plant. If I give up the vegetable garden, I'm going to turn it into a miniature orchard for miniature fruit trees. sigh...

Hello to the beautiful Daisy girl! My neighborhood is so cool. They love love love the puppies. Anytime anyone sees a stray dog they entice it into their yard with food, take pictures and Facebook them out on the neighborhood web site. I get emails everyday with pics of dogs that people have seen or enticed. The cat trap program they started was so successful. When we moved in here there were stray cats everywhere. Now I hardly see any that don't have the little ear-notch. Meaning they've been caught, notched, neutered and released back into the neighborhood. So we don't have a bunch of breeders running about. And we all make sure the strays are fed.

I don't watch much of the TV news on politics. I mainly stick to twitter and dailykos for my news. One of the people I read on twitter is Keith Olbermann. I miss him on TV. And he cracks me up. One of his tweets today:

"If only @replouiegohmert were not the stupidest Congressman ever, he might appreciate the LOL irony of a Gohmert criticizing others' brains"

Hahaha! I need the humor! Like desperately.

So how's it going in the world of the Fabs?

Sherry's got her 69th B'Day coming up. That has to be a magic number I think. If you look at 69 cross-wise, it makes the little "mathematical symbol representing the concept of infinity." Math! Infinity! The essence of All. Everything else is just an illusion. In your heart you know it's true. Wait! If my heart is an illusion and my thoughts are an illusion, then what is this 'knowing'?

I'll stop now before I get lost in the rabbit-hole of my navel-gazing.
