25 Simple Ways To Stand Up To Hate...

Well here we go Fabs, just one more day til we officially enter the American Twilight Zone Experiment.

I'm pretty sure I was meant to be wandering through a forest or body-surfing in the ocean at this point in my life. Instead I will once again be engaging in ways to transform an unfolding, ever more bizarre reality. I'll spare you a ride on the road through my mind, such as nothing is actually real. That life is nothing more than a giant feedback loop. And we're standing  in purgatory, straddling hell. Because I am nothing if not upbeat, I'll focus on the transformation.

The '25 Simple Ways' is from Upworthy which I get in my email each day. I'll highlight a few of the ways. To read them all please click the link. I think I'll write posts on more of them as the weeks unfold. They're very good.

There's no stopping this. On Jan. 20, 2017, Donald Trump will be your President and mine. If you're feeling lost or hopeless, it's okay. A lot of people are feeling the same. It may be too late to undo the results of the election, but it's never too late to do whatever you can to stand up for what you believe in. What better time to turn your feelings into action than than during the inauguration itself?

7. Shut off inauguration coverage and watch the Love-A-Thon instead.

Tune in to Upworthy's Facebook page at 12:30 pm EST on Friday, January 20th, just as the inauguration is starting, to watch the Love-A-Thon, the first ever Facebook Live telathon.
Its goal is to raise $500,000 for organizations like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood that stand up for marginalized communities.

9. Check out some of the protest hashtags as well.

As Trump is being sworn in, lots of people will be using twitter to protest and send a message. For example, the sexual assault advocacy group FORCE will be starting #WeWillNotBeSilent
Sexual assault survivors will be tweeting with that hashtag to stand up to the rape culture he represents.
They'll also be tweeting with #InThisMan — to represent the ways in which Trump reminds them of their abusers.

10. Write "This is not normal" on a post-it note and stick it somewhere you'll see it every day.

 Number 10 is my favorite!

And they cribbed it from John Oliver, so let's go straight to the horses mouth:

John Oliver said on Last Week Tonight:

“It’s important to remember many people are happy to see him in office. But for the rest of us, we are faced with the same questions as a guy that woke up the day after a Vegas bachelor party, deep in the desert, naked,
tied to a cactus and a dead clown.
Namely, how the f--k did we get here?
And what the f--k do we do now?"

“It is going to be too easy for things to start feeling normal,...
So keep reminding yourself this is not normal.
Write it on a Post-It Note, and stick it on your refrigerator.
Hire a skywriter once a month.
Tattoo it on your ass.
Because a Klan-backed misogynist internet troll is going to be delivering the next State of the Union address.
And that is not normal,
it is f--ked up.”

11. Reach out to someone who's also feeling anxious.

If you're feeling bad, chances are you know someone else who is. Now is the time to reach out to them.

We're all going to need each other's help and support.

Ain't that the truth?!

How we doin' Fabs?

Oh, you did it again, Ms. G........observed that pile of sub-human excrement and remain determined to find the pony. I am grateful for your post, and the VALID observations that we ARE NOT ALONE, and we will not take this rape of our democracy quietly! I watched "Full Frontal" (Samantha Bee) last night and she made yet another case for stubborn refusal to view ANY of this as normal or acceptable. Resistance is the key. I am attending a protest gathering Saturday (send me +~~ ladies, the MAJORITY of my fellow citizens in this county actually voted for the traitorous naked emperor) and plan to respond to my own 'post-it' note in every way possible. I may be of a "certain age," but I am not without a voice and resources. And I truly believe that as our fellow citizens come to realize that America is being dismantled, they will appreciate the fact that some of us got a head start in trying to mitigate the damage.

Keep the faith Fabulous FABS!!

HenZenMama! You are off to a local womens march?! That is so excellent. I'll be with you in spirit. And I will send lots of love and energy. Our Dallas march is downtown. A place that drives me so crazy I rarely if ever venture there. It was our intention that Mike would go too and brave the traffic and navigate the impossible to find parking spots. But I bought Mike a ticket to a 'growing succulents' class for Xmas. It is at the same time as the March. I was very sad. But my spirits are way lifted now that I know you are going and can carry my intention in your pocket as you go. As it were. Ha! Time to turn on the TV and see if I can find some stuff on the marches going on around the country.

Hey FABS

I am home from the "Women's Walk" and I am in awe of my fellow citizens. I believe that yesterday was the darkest day that ever dawned in American history. I felt terrified, demoralized, and very angry, but I REFUSE to feel helpless! My husband sacrificed and risked his life to protect American values. This malignant Russian-inspired administration is not worthy of his service and I am outraged by their intentions to destroy our democracy. After being with a huge group of amazing people, talking with them, singing with them, walking in the rain with them, my hope is renewed. We do not have to take this sitting down, my friends. Michael Moore spoke to a crowd at noon yesterday and suggested that one way we could have a continuing effect on Washington is to "light up the phones," to call in EVERY DAY. (he advised that this tactic played a BIG role in keeping the Repugs from gutting the Ethics oversight group) Here is the number for the switchboard: 202~225~3121, all you need to do is ask to be connected with your representative - they can use your zip code to route you through if need be. I have resolved to do something PRO-ACTIVE every day going forward until we find a way to restore some justice to our lives and reclaim our country. I will NEVER accept the status quo and after today, between my personal experience with the good people of my little county, and the news coverage of the global marches, I know I am not alone, and there IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!!

And yes, you were all with me today - right there in the pocket of my heart.

+~~ and reality-based hope

Thank you so much for posting Deni! We will get through this together. And I agree with Sherry, we have to go in the opposite direction from this vile plague that has infested Washington! Everyday I will fight to overcome fear and injustice and bigotry. I've already spoken up when terrible things have been said, no matter how uncomfortable it made me.

The march in Denver grew to 150,000+, they couldn't really count. Peaceful and inspiring. All ages, genders, and ethnicities. Quite amazing. I hope a sleeping giant has been awakened- the American spirit of goodness and fairness!

We may have to endure, but in the end "we shall overcome"!
