"......the seat-belt light will be on through November." Oh Mr. Robinson, you DO have a way with the words!
Good morning and thanks for the link, Candy. Plenty to grin and cringe about in that one. I will be looking forward to hearing about your caucus experience, as you know, we do not have that system here. However, I am attending a New Year's Day party later this afternoon which will be well-attended by a cross-section of local residents, (Yamhill County is about as conservative as it gets.) and I expect to come home with expanded (albeit disquieting) awareness.
I think you are so right about the festering dissatisfaction that good ol' t.p. has tapped into. Call me Pollyanna, seems to me that it would be a much better idea to approach the problems with solutions as opposed to dividing the country into enemy camps and throwing gasoline on the fire? Ah, self-aggrandizement/ego masturbation at any cost, America be damned.
I am happy to know that you have started 2016 on a rested note, I look forward to hearing that Deni and AgyJane greeted the new year in similar fashion.
Just watched our President deliver his message on sensible gun regulation. Can we hear the right and the NRA loading ammunition into their mighty weapons of propaganda? He appealed to voters to rise up and rid the rolls of law makers who stand in the way. We shall see. In spite of the terrifying possibilities of a t-p in the White House, I look forward to Obama leaving office. I can hardly bear to think about the abuse he has suffered as he worked to steer the American ship in such treacherous waters. He has earned a rest.
Talked to AgyJane last night, she was relaxing in the afterglow of a very happy holiday. Hope the same is true for Candy and Deni? Things have been challenging on the farm (sub-zero weather + ice and snow.....oh *whine*whine*) but the power has stayed on so there remains much for which to be grateful! And I have a stack of garden catalogs to keep me focused on spring, the veggie patch is already taking shape in my mind's eye.
Thinking of y'all, hoping our year ahead will be filled with sweet connections.
Above comment was left brain way of expressing us going the way of Roman Empire and ending in dark ages with t-p. CW thought I'd lost it...lol...which is debatable thingy. I worry the loonies could take Hill down with all the fodder for their enjoyment out there.
Hope all enjoyed the holidaze...we had the best since Denver. Gorilla's downhill slide was so slow that I didn't notice until the past year. Went with friends to a surprisingly good German restaurant in Salem which tingled the taste buds and that was a good thing.
It's been mighty cold here, but the last few days have given us a brief respite. I guess the cold and snow return tomorrow. Oh well it is a beautiful place.
CW-I heard from my son and he was running pillar to post with flooding and then freezing in the buildings his company owns. What a mess. He spent most of New Years weekend working, but is happy for the money. Hope your place stays cozy, warm and safe.
So good to hear that Agy and the gorilla are back in fine form and out on the town! I think the Roman Empire comparison is very apt. Think we've been on this path for awhile, but we seem to be at a crossroads. Just hope that enough young people are energized and vote to send a message that sanity and hope are the future, not despair and division. I keep sending my grandkids articles to read and sometimes they actually respond.
Hope all is well in Dallas after the awful weather-I know there is a storm headed our way, which will move on in Deni's direction, but it looks small. I bet you are garden planning as well, Deni! Spring will be here before we know, if the speed of the last 10 years is any evidence. How has it gone so fast?
Daisy and I are hanging out and getting out as much as possible. Came back from the dog park yesterday a muddy, but happy mess! Looks like a bath will be in order in the next few days. She is still growing but not getting huge. About 55 lbs and petite; works for me.
In some ways it feels like we are in our own version of the Dark Ages. So much willful ignorance and hate of "the other". But there also seem to be a lot of people out there fighting for truth and justice, which keeps hope alive. Lot of information out there, but you can't make people read it if they are determined to remain in the dark!
I got a new calendar for Christmas-it is a Mary Englebreit; she is a wonderful artist who lives and works in Missouri. The January page says:
I am beyond delighted to report that it is 39 balmy degrees on the farm, and the ugly white mess has melted away. WOO HOO! Making a market run into town will not be a treacherous ordeal today. Oh hurry here, beloved spring.
Haven't heard from our Deni in a while.....sure hope all is well at Dragonlfly Manor? And after reading something posted elsewhere, AgyJane, it would seem that you are doing a deep dive into re-evaluating and restructuring a few things in the new year. "Iron fist/ velvet glove" comes to mind? :-}
It sure is a blessing that you don't share my opinion of snow, Candy. or that your Daisy Dancer actually seems to like the stuff - or at least she doesn't balk at going out in it. My little silkys get high-centered on two inches of snow and whine to come back in immediately.
Be well, y'all, and try to avoid all repulsive Repug-lican commentary. The toxicity is hazardous to our health. (And have you noticed that when t-p's pitiful supporters are interviewed, their eyes glaze over and they spew his vile bullshit verbatim, and with total conviction?) I am officially horrified by that segment of the population. Do we remember what Jim Jones did with HIS fully indoctrinated cult members?? Thank the goddess for sane minds - and may she help us to keep the madness at bay.
Oh mercy, AgyJane, cyberspace is eating your comments?? Keep trying, girl.....we need your input!! And YOO HOO Deni.....we long for contact. :-}
I was just perusing the webs and happened on this article, a rare sober evaluation from a conservative columnist: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/12/opinion/the-brutalism-of-ted-cruz.html
As everyone is (rightfully) distressed by the t-p, I find the alternatives just as unsettling. Watching Cruz makes my skin crawl, he is the devil in a suit. The idea that someone so vile could take over America is the stuff of nightmares. When I get this posted, I am going to make another donation to the Sanders campaign.....Cruz gives a whole new meaning to feeling the Bern!
Hope everyone is having a decent day, we need to carpe diem while there is still a decent human being in the White House.
Hey FABS, thinking a few of us here have ODD...obsessive dog disorder. Mine complain when additions to food are not to there liking and every time they go out entitles them to a treat!
Barry and Bernie are the only two decent politicians in our country. Great speech last night and the country needs to listen up!! I think even the GOP is getting frantic with the T-man.
I am having to get another computer as this is on it's last leg. Gorilla had to play with this so I can get here. Speaking of a certain ape....he is starting a new med that is the only thing out there for him at this point. Send Mucho white light!!!
O.D.D.....me too! My little girls, Karma and Kizzy rule THIS roost. Lucky me!!
I certainly agree about the speech, AgyJane, it was that perfect Obama combination of inspiration and pointed humor. I hope everyone was able to watch Charlie Rose do a retrospective on the speech with Doris Goodwin, Kathleen Parker, Meecham, et al that aired earlier today. (PBS) It was brilliant. They all managed to verbalize some of what rattles around in my head about our Prez, the true nature of his challenges, and the depth of his legacy. I would have provided a link to the program but couldn't find one. I will try again tomorrow, it may be that it just hasn't been posted yet. I was especially interested to hear Parker's thoughtful and respectful assessment. She was a very vocal critic way back in 2008 and WOW has she changed her tune. I HIGHLY recommend my cybersisters catch this program if at all possible.
Re our hope for the future, GO BERNIE!! I have observed a level of revulsion coming from several of my more "conservative" acquaintances of late. They see the slate of Repug candidates as terrifying maniacs so some of them may grit teeth and vote to save America.
More Repug debate fireworks/circular firing squad on tap tomorrow. I will be popping corn. :-}

p.s. Candy - when does Colorado caucus? I am SO looking forward to your thoughts and observations.
Doing fine here. Made it through the new year, albeit without a water heater. Very adventuresome. We finally got the new one in a couple days ago. I've been living in the tub ever since. It's frozen and warmed and frozen and warmed here. We got a couple warm days right now and I'm trying to get daffodils planted. I took the tree down today and packed everything away. It's a miracle!
The primaries will be here soon. Can't come too soon for me. I'm not sure if it matters who the Repubs choose. They're all incompetent giant assholes with dicks so tiny you need a tweezers and a magnifying glass to spot 'em.
OMG did anyone else watch the debate last night and come away feeling violated and tortured? Our democracy is in grave peril if even ONE of those maniacs gets anywhere near the White House. As little respect as I have felt for past Repug candidates, they look almost benign and harmless compared to the dangerous war-mongering America bashing radical extremists now in the running. At least we could roll our eyes and find some humor in past contests. Quite telling when the white supremacists are making robocalls for t-p, and the Duck Dynasty anarchists are running ads for the Canadian demon. I see some hope though, some of this has reached the thresh-hold for a segment of our reasonable right-leaning citizens and they may be the key to locking out the destructive forces. To paraphrase Mr. Robinson again, seat belts ON!
Thanks again for your blog Candy. So nice to have a place to vent.
I read a live-blog during their debate. I just couldn't handle actually watching and listening to them. It's so depressing. My liddle grey cells commit suicide in protest.
Once the primaries are over and we've chosen our candidate, it's obvious we can leave no stone unturned during the general. Remember how badly we knew Bush was going to screw up the country. And remember how what he actually did was so so so much worse than anything we'd dreamed? This group of goppers is exponentially worse. And the damage any one of them could do is terrifying. If there was ever a fight for the soul of this country, this Presidential election will be it.
Happy winter greeting to the FABS. Hope all is well in the various districts of FABLAND. Think of you all often and sending buckets of white light for Curt and the new meds. And hopefully Texas and Oregon will stay flood-free for the foreseeable future.
I watched a bit of the debate, but it is physically impossible for me to watch for too long, as I get nauseous and anxious all at the same time. I agree, Deni, I am too old for this shit!! How have we come to such a place??
How sad that we can't do better. So many smart, well-intentioned people out there, and we seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe we should send the barrel over Niagara Falls, now in mid-winter!!
I read the article about Cruz; he makes my skin crawl. His poor family, especially those two little girls, who he brags about spanking. A real "man", that one.
Colorado does it's caucus in March and I went four years ago. It was very interesting; we only mustered about 25 people; hope more turn out this time. Bernie is talking about issues that I care about and so I am most interested in him, but the idea behind the caucus is to come to a consensus and go to the district convention and represent the majority, which I suspect here in Boulder will be Hillary, because the folks I have talked to seem to think she is more "electable". But it will be fun to participate. It is reassuring to me to hear how thoughtful and intelligent people can be.
GW Bush was a disaster, but we didn't really elect him; he and his cronies stole the election. Of course the Repubs are doing all they can to depress voter turnout that is favorable to the Dems. We have Karl Rove to thank for the strategy of taking as much local control as possible to run election boards, state legislatures and the local governments. It was brilliant, if Machiavellian! Now we have to take them back; one at a time if necessary.
Daisy and I are surviving the cold. I am trying to stay healthy, but colds and bronchitis are everywhere this Winter. Picked up another cold last weekend. so have been lying low. She is my salvation-I worry more about running out of treats for her than food for me. But she is lying at my feet as I type, my ever present friend.
We have to stay strong this year to survive the onslaught of election @#$% that is going to hit the fan. I agree, this is the fight of our life, for the soul of the country and the health of the future. Stay strong FABS-we can do this!!
